A Brainerd Lakes Family Tradition
Gathering the Sweet Maple Sap
Minnesota Maple Syrup Season
Our rental cabin in Brainerd Minnesota is perfectly suited for outdoor enthusiasts. The rental cabin sits in the middle of fifteen acres of woods in the middle of the Brainerd Lakes Area. The rental cabin is surrounded by Maple trees. These wonderful trees provide us with gallons of pure maple syrup every spring. Cabin guests staying at our Brainerd Lakes rental cabin are welcome to participate in maple syrup season with us.
A Brainerd Lakes Family Tradition
The tapping of maple trees is a family tradition at our rental cabin in Brainerd MN. It was first started by my late father-in-law, Gordy, soon after he retired and relocated to the Brainerd Lakes Area. The process is labor-intensive but worth the effort. We produce several gallons of pure maple syrup each season. The process starts with the tapping of the trees. We have several hundred maple trees on the property of our Brainerd Lakes rental cabin. We only select those trees which are greater than nine inches in diameter.

Gathering the Sweet Maple Sap
We tap the maple trees with small aluminum tubes called taps. The taps allow the tree sap to drain into buckets which we hang on the taps. In good years the buckets will have to be emptied several times daily. We maintain multiple trails on the property our Brainerd Lakes cabin sits on. These provide easy access to the best-producing maple trees on the property. There is peace and quiet that can’t be explained when walking the property of our rental cabin in Brainerd Minnesota. The woods are finally coming back to life and the gentle drip, drip, drip of maple sap is the background music.

Boiling Down the Sweet Maple Sap
Pure Brainerd Lakes Maple Syrup
The final process of making pure maple syrup is the most enjoyable. It involves sitting around a fire, visiting, and watching the maple sap evaporate. We have a large evaporator at the rental cabin in Brainerd Minnesota, but we also have a smaller one for cabin guests wishing to make their own. Guests staying at our Brainerd Lakes rental cabin are welcome to make their own maple syrup during their stay. We will show them how to evaporate, filter, and bottle their sweet creation. The maple syrup season at our Brainerd Lakes rental cabin starts in late February and runs to mid-March.
